Some Typical Vortex Application Considerations:

Steam Plant Flow –

Boiler Blowdown
Condensate Return Lines
P1 Steam Before Turbine
P2 Steam After Turbine
Main Steam Lines
Superheated Steam
Saturated Steam
Boiler Feed Water
Natural Gas Flow to Boilers

Gas Flow –

Gas Main Lines in Plant
Hydrogen Cooling Lines
Nitrogen Lines in Plant
Argon Lines in Plant
High Purity Gas Plant
Liquid Nitrogen Plant
Offgas in Plant
Natural Gas Lines in Plant
Plant Air Lines

Application Considerations:

Digital Vortex Flow Meters provide a robust measurement for the process industry. Typical applications listed above have been proven with thousands of successful applications Worldwide. When considering a Digital Vortex Flow Meter for an application, keep in mind the following application requirements –

  • Orientation of the Flow Meter in the process line should be specified
  • Piping for the installation should be secure without a high resonant frequency
  • Typical installations can require 20 Upstream Diameters and 10 Down Stream Diameters
  • Single Phase Flow is required
  • Full Pipe of the process flow media is required
  • Little to no particulate in the process media (not intended for slurry applications)
  • Installation downstream from a valve which is ‘cycling’ could provide false readings
  • Changes of Temperature Values away from the calibrated range
  • Changes in Pressure Ranges away from the calibrated range
  • Changes of Flow Values away from the calibrated range
  • Sufficient Flow to provide enough velocity to maintain a constant vorticity past the Sensor
  • Proper installation and electrical procedures to insure no leakage of water into the electronics
  • Proper installation including the ‘gasketing material’ between flanges and piping
  • Avoid the possibility of using the Vortex Meter for other than its intended of Flow Measurement
